I simply could not get my message across in these meetings unless I made some accommodations with the local culture and values. Afghanistan is not like other countries. It's a throwback. You've got to compromise and go a little native."

"Progress means getting nearer to the place you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong turn, then to go forward does not get you any nearer. If you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man."

    Quote of the Week
"A tiny flicker of light that feeds on hope is enough to shatter the shield of darkness. A single individual is enough for hope to exist, and that individual can be you. And then there will be another 'you', and another 'you', and it turns into an 'us'. And so, does hope begin when we have an 'us'? No. Hope began with one 'you'. When there is an 'us', there begins a revolution."
    - Pope Francis, April 2016 TED Talk
